Harnessing Thermal Drones: A Revolutionary Approach to Finding Lost Pets
Losing a pet is a distressing experience for any pet owner, and can cause immense stress and heartache.
Importance of swift recovery: Every moment counts when it comes to reuniting with a lost furry friend, we have the greatest success if we can get up in the air with in 24 hours of the pet going missing. Alternatively if you have a verified sighting of the animal that restarts the 24 hour clock.
Introducing thermal drones: A cutting-edge solution that revolutionizes pet search and rescue efforts.
While traditional search methods: Flyers, posters, and door-to-door inquiries, or online postings often yield limited results. They are a passive way of locating a lost pet in the hopes that someone will reach out to you. The drone searching gives you a more active way in locating your lost pet.
Factors here in Cherokee County / North West Georgia like dense foliage, rough terrain, and darkness can impede search efforts. With the implementation of thermal technology these issues can be bypassed.
The Rise of Thermal Drones
Advantages over traditional methods: Ability to cover large areas quickly, depending on the environment like tree density and RF interference we can cover on average 100-300 acres. We can also operate in various conditions like rainy or snowy conditions. This also allows us to provide provide real-time data in the field and provide active tracking.
Cost-effectiveness: Thermal drones save time and resources compared to manual search operations. Drones can cover ground significantly quicker and move effectively. They also do not have the issue of possible trespassing to search potential areas of interest.
What are thermal drones? Our drone is equipped with the the latest commercial grade thermal imaging sensor. Unlike typical RGB color sensors that pick up colors on the visible light spectrum, thermal drones pick up the thermal radiation given off by all warm blooded animals. This radiation is visible to the sensor even in the dead of night.
How Thermal Drones Work in Pet Recovery
Operational procedure: Typically we deploy the thermal drone in targeted search areas based on the pet’s last known location. Thermal imaging is most effective about 1 hour before sunset, at night, and up to 1 hour after sunrise. Thermal imaging is not effective during the heat of the day with the exception of heavy overcast days.
The things I would need to get started on a search – A picture of the lost animal, an address the animal was last seen, someone the animal is familiar with to make the approach and capture.
Thermal imaging interpretation: We are Level 1 Aerial thermography certified ITC operators analyzing thermal footage to identify potential heat sources, including lost pets.
